How Can swelling And Pain In The Leg Be Treated?

OK - I have had a relatively quick onset of exquisite pain at, or near the top of my knee cap. The pain woke me last night, merely lifting my leg was very painful. As the day has gone on the pain has increased; I m not able to bend my knee without pain that takes my breath away. It is painful with any small bending - I ve had to sit with my leg straight. Though over the past hour or so even that is painful. The knee cap area is slightly warm, and there is a fair amount of swelling. Given that, and the fact that I am a sophomore in the truest sense of the word, I am going to guess at my diagnosis and say gout. Thoughts ?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As a first line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult an orthopedician and plan for an MRI scan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
